As well as being our first attempt at holidaying with a baby, it was also our first ever time visiting Northumberland and WOW, we so should have visited here sooner! It’s stunning – the coastline, the castles, the woodlands, the people, the pubs
We stayed at the beautiful Bridge House in the grounds of the most haunted castle in England, Chillingham Castle. I have to say this place is secluded, just what we were after for our break, but the quietness and darkness certainly made for some interesting 3am feeds and baby calming sessions whilst listening to the unusual and rather unnerving sounds coming from the woodland outside the house! Think we need to man up a bit
Northumberland was stunning with more than it’s fair share of castles. Alnwick Castle was 20 minutes away (the gardens here are certainly worth a visit, really beautiful), Bamburgh Castle with some wonderful coastal and beach walks surrounding it and our favourite, following the stunning National Trust coastal path to arrive there, Dunstanburgh Castle.
Looking back, it looks like our whole holiday revolved around castles!! In fact we had a wonderful time with our 13 week old daughter, she loved every minute of it and we’ll certainly be coming back when she’s a little older to build some castles of our own in the sand
