Our first time in Crete………….aaaand relax…ahhhh.

WOW what an amazing trip.

We’ve just returned from a truly relaxing break in Crete where we stayed at a wonderful place in the tiny village of Pano Elounda Albion House, owned by Julia Jones, an artist who runs trips around the island photographing and painting the flora of Crete.

The villa was stunning, overlooking Mirabello Bay and the town of Elounda from it’s rooftop terrace, it’s rustic charm fitting in perfectly with what we love in our holidays, lots of wood, creaky floor boards, bare stone walls, peace, solitude and it even came with it’s own friendly cats.

The week was spent chilling out, reading, drinking, eating and visiting the sites of Crete and couldn’t have been any more relaxing, the beaches were empty, the sun was warm and the beer was cold.

In fact Elounda must have been about 1 week away from closing down for the winter, as every restaurant we went to shut the very next day!

If you get the opportunity and solitude and a more sedate pace of life is what you’re after, definitely get over to Julia’s place, the village is perfect to get away from the crowds, explore the real Cretan experience, and if you want to wind down you’d be hard pressed to find anywhere better.

Oh and if you do go, try out the little restaurant in the village, the most amazing Meze for less than 15 Euros for two people including a carafe of wine. Can’t say fairer than that. Roll on next year xx
